San Diego Model Railroad Museum Executive Director Anthony Ridenhour tasked Absolutely Electric Inc. with providing the power source for his institution’s Balboa Park Centennial Garden Railroad Exhibit, open in 2015 in San Diego’s Balboa Park. Not only does the photovoltaic system AE designed power the exhibit, but it provides an educational model to acquaint industry professionals and general public in the concepts of Photovoltaics, Microgrid design, Advanced Energy Storage, Demand Flattening and Demand Load Shedding as well as utilizing State of California Rebate programs such as SGIP.

Guardian Angels Church Commercial Solar Installation

Project Overview:

Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Santee California requested that Absolutely Electric Inc provide a holistic solution energy efficiency solution to the campus, which includes a worship sanctuary, a Parsonage, meeting and administration facilities, and a Preschool. AE and GACC Members Steve Bollerman, Joe Zuniga, and Elda Woodson identified a lighting and controls retrofit opportunity as well as candidacy for a Photovoltaic (Solar Power) System. Using third party Utility rebates and Incentives, AE designed and installed a new lighting system, at a discounted cost to GACC. A few months later AE followed up with the design and construction of a Solar Power System sized to the reduced energy load. These steps, along with AE guidance to the proper Utility tariff an have resulted in SCUMC becoming a Net Zero Energy House of Worship.

We, at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Santee, were looking for a reliable and honest solar company to work with in an effort to reduce our ever increasing electric bills.

Travis Nixon and Earl Mohler, were very hands on throughout the project, took time to show us how to check our system to make sure everything was working, spot any problems (which we have not had) and worked with us and SDG&E to make sure we were in the correct billing rate.

Through third party utility funding, Absolutely Electric Inc. helped this historic downtown La Jolla jewel rework the lighting and controls for its library, gallery, and concert spaces to not only garner an extreme reduction in energy consumption, but also to facilitate an improvement in staff and visitor experiences through collection browsing, art show cycles and concert series. The Timken Museum of Art project was a utility program funded lighting and controls retrofit of the iconic Balboa Park Museum that not only improved the overall focal lighting pallet, but also cut operating costs drastically. Through the sophisticated lighting control system linked with the HVAC Controls (provided by Jackson & Blanc), The Timken is in process of setting up Automated Demand Response with the local utility and is now able to offer lending museums “report cards” which detail exact site conditions and allows curatorial staff to make informed decisions of artifact cycle scheduling.
